Are you more of a headphone or earphone/earbud person? Whether you use them for your daily jog, to talk on the phone, or just for fun, all of us can admit that audio devices are a part of our daily life. So before we go into ranking, let’s talk terminology:
Though these terms might often be used interchangeably, headphones are designed to be worn on or around the head over a user’s ears, while earphones/earbuds are inserted into the ear canal. So which is better? Like anything, it’s a matter of preference.
Up until now, headphones and earphones / earbuds have been wired. However the whole industry is attempting to go wireless, understanding the value of a cord-free experience. If you’re tired of dealing with the mess of tangled cords, chances are you too are searching to upgrade to a truly wireless experience. So let’s take a look at some of the coolest truly wireless earbuds/earphones out there on the market!
Earin defined themselves as the “smallest wireless earbuds available on the market,” and rightly so! Weighing in at 5 grams each, Earin is designed to be compact and flexible, while at the same time optimising acoustics and electronics together. With no cables or unnecessary functionality, Earin is perfect for music-lovers on-the-go!
Bragi Dash describes themselves as the world’s first ‘truly wireless’ smart earphones, but they do more than just play music. With 4GB of storage, the Dash can playback music even when not connected to your smartphone! More than that, the Dash can also be used as an activity tracker, allowing you to track your physical activities and performance in real-time. The earphones also use an ‘EarTouch Interface’ that allows you to control the volume or answer phone calls with a single touch.
Fresh off the shelves, Samsung recently revealed its own truly wireless earbuds, the Gear IconX! These earbuds are namely marketed towards the fitness community, so they come fully equipped with in-ear voice guidance, tracking, a built-in heart rate monitor and calorie tracker, and full integration with Samsung’s S Health App. Like the Dash, the IconX also holds 4GB of storage, so you can listen to your favorite music without your smartphone.
Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, Erato recently unveiled the Apollo 7 – what they call “the world’s most compact truly wireless earbuds.” These earbuds do not have the same fancy extra features that some of the other earbuds have, because they prefer to focus on the sound and the music. These earbuds weigh in at only 4 grams and are water resistant. Another amazing benefit of Erato is that the buds are paired individually, with the left and right side operating independently. This differs from other models where they are required to be close together in order to work.
If you’re looking for a pair of truly wireless headphones, check out “The Aware” by United Sciences which just recently finished a successful Kickstarter campaign. The Aware sets out to be more than a good pair of wireless headphones – it a custom-fit bluetooth headphone embedded with biometric sensors that can not only measure your fitness activity, but also tracks brain waves and provides your real-time feedback about your focus, sleep, and stress patterns to help guide you to be more mindful. What makes these headphones even more appealing is that they are custom fit to less than 1/10th of a millimeter, enabling them to accurately and reliably capture your biometric brain wave data!
Headphones and earbuds come in different sizes and variations. Ultra-compact and lightweight earbuds are the most portable of all earbuds/earphones and are placed inside the canal for a better hearing experience. That is why Humavox’s ETERNA wireless charging platform has the ability to integrate into the smallest of devices, meaning that regardless of the small size of the earbuds, Humavox can enable wireless charging within the earbud with its miniature wireless charging receiver. This way, you can truly count on your headphones/earbuds working when you need them!
